Dachau Concentration Camp

This was the first concentration camp built in Germany.It was opened 22 March 1933 (51 days after Hitler took power). The camp was officially described as "the first concentration camp for political prisoners".

This is the main gate to the camp. The words on the gate means "work sets you free"

One of the many watch towers. If the prisoners came to close to the fence they were shot immediately.

This is the building that held the gas chamber and 3 furnaces for burning dead bodies.

Sleeping quarters...they were so crammed the slept two to a bed.
